INTERN SPOTLIGHT:

Hey everyone! I’m Giuliana, a senior Comparative Literature and Spanish major at Cornell University. In the future, I would like to become an editor and translator, working with manuscripts published in English, Spanish, and French. I’m particularly interested in multilingual works representative of the diverse identities in the United States today.

Ink Alchemy Books intern, Giuliana Keeth

I’m thrilled to be interning at Ink Alchemy Books because it is a great opportunity to develop hands-on skills related to the processes of editing and publishing literary works. I look forward to advancing my professional abilities in the upcoming months. In my free time, I enjoy playing the violin, cooking international foods, and photographing the beautiful wildlife and forests of Ithaca.

WRITING PROMPT (brought to you by Giuliana):

Need a spark of inspiration? Here, have a prompt: She had always felt a strange connection to birds…now she knew exactly why.

Writer’s Block? Here’s a couple tips and tricks to refresh your thoughts and regain inspiration:

  • Try taking a short walk outside after spending a particularly long time writing. While it may seem like the obvious activity to do, disconnecting from literary work for a moment and paying attention to your physical health and wellness is crucial!

  • Set five minutes on a timer to observe an object near you and describe it in the most detail possible. If you’re eager for an extra challenge, consider eliminating the usage of similes, metaphors, and other literary devices.

  • Nothing calms the nerves more than getting a nice drink to accompany you while writing. Plus, it gives you a moment to step back and ground yourself in reality once again. Some of our favorites are: a steaming cup of chai tea, hot apple cider steeped in cinnamon and cloves, and finally, a refreshing glass of mint lemonade.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

Seeking short stories without any human characters. Aliens, robots, animals, gods, mythical creatures, plants, and inanimate objects, are all welcome in this anthology. Let’s give ourselves a break from humanity! We’re accepting submissions for Xeno: Stories Sans Humans through the end of September.

The Importance of Representation: We understand the value of seeing oneself reflected in literature, thus actively seek to publish stories that represent a spectrum of readers. Authors and characters of all identities will always be welcome in Ink Alchemy Book publications.
